Andrew “Drew” Grimes

Andrew “Drew” Grimes, 44, of Phenix City, AL passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL, after a brief illness.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am EST Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Central Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL with Rev. David Hardwick, Rev. Rodney Mitchell and Dr. Wayne Scarborough officiating.  An interment will follow at Oswichee Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EST, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL.

Drew was born in Columbus, GA on October 15, 1979, son of Danny L. Grimes and Judy McClung Porter.  His body was limited by spina bifida, but Drew overcame. As a child he swam, played football, wiffle ball, basketball, and rode bikes through the neighborhood with his brothers and many friends. His spirit of independence and persistence served him well for his entire life. He worked for 18 years as a greeter at Wal Mart and more recently obtained his Real Estate License.  Drew enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, Alabama football and his cat, Socks.  He had a creative side that led him to design and produce motivational wear.  Above all he loved the Lord and his churches.  He grew up in Auburn Heights Baptist Church and continued to volunteer at Common Grounds Coffee Shop.  Drew was a member of Central Baptist Church, and served faithfully on the worship team running the media slides.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Doris McClung, Pete Grimes and Dorothy Tyner and Fred and Delores Porter.

He is survived by his mother, Judy McClung Porter and husband Roger of Phenix City, AL; father, Danny L. Grimes and wife Tracy of Phenix City, AL; brothers, J.R. Grimes and wife Misty, Zach Porter and wife Cassey and Adam Porter and wife Jennifer, all of Phenix City, AL; sisters, Brandy Ward and Magen Culpepper and husband Cain, all of Phenix City, AL; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
