Ann Elizabeth Martin

Ann Elizabeth Owens Martin, Virginia Beach, Virginia, 89, died peacefully October 5, 2023.  She was born November 26, 1933 in Hurtsboro, Alabama.  The daughter of the late Charles H. and Annie (Philpot) Owens.

Ann went to high school in Hurstboro, Alabama and graduated from Montevallo.  She was a schoolteacher throughout her life, spending her last years teaching at Virginia Beach Public Schools and retiring at the age of 73. She was married to William F. Martin, Captain USN, for 61 years.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Lynne Upshaw; three brothers, Charles Owens, Dr. Harry P. Owens and Hugh Upshaw.

Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Sharon Carmack and her husband Steve of Manassas, Virginia, Tara McKeever and her husband Patrick of Virginia Beach, Virginia and her son William Martin and his wife Deborah of High Point, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, Katie, Laura, Ethan, Will, Owen, Maggie, Will, Walt, Bennett and Owen.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) or 10:00 AM (CDT) on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Hurstboro Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Turner officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow in Hurtsboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
