Arita Jean Godwin

Arita Jean Godwin, 75, of Phenix City, AL passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Columbus Hospice at Midtown Medical in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randy Comer officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 EDT at Vance Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Godwin was born April 8, 1940 in Pike County, AL to the late Porter Monroe Thorne and Dora Elizabeth Jordan Thorne. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her church family at River of Life and always enjoyed a day of fishing. Other than her parents she is preceded by her brother, Myron K. Thorne and son-in-law, David Eugene Shehane. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Jimmie Godwin; brother, Jackie R. Thorne(Rhonda) of Phenix City; children, Venetia Skoglund(Danny) of Smith Station, Denise Shehane of Phenix City, Max McDaniel Godwin of Phenix City, Craig McDaniel Godwin(Sue) of Phenix City and Sidney Godwin(Carla) of Salem; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; numerous other loving family members and many caring friends.
