Barbara Walker Mitchell, 94, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 1, 2026.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 04, 2026 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Funeral Services will follow starting at 11:00 AM (EST), in the Chapel with Rev. Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating. A private interment will be in Hatchechubbee Methodist Church Cemetery.
Ms. Mitchell was born March 15, 1932, in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Felix Augustus Walker, Sr. and Jessie Berry Wilson Walker. She was a graduate of Huntingdon College, Montgomery, AL, with a bachelor’s degree in Art. Ms. Mitchell was also an active member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worshiping with her family and friends.
She was a woman who truly exemplified the virtues of the Proverbs 31 woman—graceful in spirit, strong in faith, and devoted in love. She carried a servant’s heart, always placing the needs of her family and others before her own, offering kindness, compassion, and quiet strength in all she did.
Blessed with many gifts and talents from God, she used each one faithfully, touching countless lives through her generosity, wisdom, and unwavering care. Her life was a reflection of her faith, and her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved and served so deeply.
Ms. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Jessie Walker; two sisters, Martha Walker Herndon and Gloria Walker Fannin.
Survivors include her four children, Jeanie Mitchell McDonald (Tommy), Janet Leigh Mitchell, Joanie Mitchell Koehler (Tim) and George “Tripp” W. Mitchell, III, (Danielle);a brother, Felix “Buddy” A. Walker, Jr.; grandchildren, Allison McDonald Murfee (Brad), Jon Rhodes McDonald (Taylor),Meredith McDonald Hicks (Brad), Kerstin Koehler Robson (Andrew), Chad Wilder Koehler (Jordyn), Courtney Koehler Bentley (Jake), Rebecca Ann Mitchell and George Hampton Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Sarah Kate and Mac Murfee, Bo, Thomas, and Emily McDonald, Loren, William, and Hallie Hicks, James Robson ,Grayson and Beckett Koehler, and Banks Bentley.
The family wishes to offer a heart felt thank you to the “angels” at Visiting Angels, Sharhonda Newsome, Peggy Williams, Elsie Cotton, Tonya Bowman and Debbie Lattimore.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in her memory to Hatchechubbee Methodist Church, 182 Shady Grove Road, Hatchechubbee, AL 36858.
