Bobby Gene Dempsey, 79, of Phenix City, AL was called home to Heaven on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Noon (EST) on Friday, September 26, 2025, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Jeremy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour on Friday at the funeral home.
One of eight children, Mr. Dempsey was born June 08, 1946, in Columbus, GA son of the late Oscar C. Dempsey and Gladys Gresham Carpenter. He was a Master Brick Mason by trade and retired from The Lisle Company in 2011 as a Superintendent after working his way up the ladder. As a Master Brick Mason and Superintendent for a General Contractor he left his mark all around our area and even the world. He built the actual brick kilns for Bickerstaff Brick Company. Other notable builds are the Clock Tower at CSU, The Corporate Center, and The Hardaway Building with their intricate brick detail. Mr. Dempsey was also selected to build the first brick home in Puerto Rico. Needless to say, he was a talented man whose legacy will live on well into the future.
As proud as he was of his work life, he was a Christian who lived out his faith. He was always sharing his belief in Christ with those around him, thus laying up eternal treasures in Heaven where rust and moth cannot destroy. He was also an active part of Golden Acres Baptist Church where he enjoyed worshiping with his family and friends as often as possible.
We will remember him as “a man’s man”. Always protecting and providing for his family by working, hunting and fishing. He was tough in that he had multiple types of cancer and was blessed to beat each one every time. Time with his family was always top priority and was enjoyed to the fullest with camping, ball games, recitals, birthdays and family time.
A favorite family memory was made in February of this year when he and his wife celebrated 60 years of marriage. The entire family spent a weekend at Callaway Gardens enjoying each other and the various adventures the Gardens have to offer. Looking back, the memories created that weekend will never be topped by anything else. Thank you for being our rock, husband, dad, granddad, brother, uncle and friend.
