Carolyn Elizabeth Bridgeman Dawson, 84, of Phenix City, AL died on Monday, May 04, 2026, surrounded by her loving family while under the care of Columbus Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM (EST) on Thursday, May 07, 2026, in Ladonia Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Hyche officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow in Ladonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour at the church on Thursday.
Mrs. Dawson was born May 05, 1941, in McColl, SC daughter of the late Archie K. Bridgeman and Ina Louise Cameron Bridgeman. She was an active and beloved member of Ladonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Dawson sang in the choir and had a card ministry. She shared encouragement, sympathy, gratitude and birthdays by sending numerous cards out weekly.
Mrs. Dawson had retired from the Phenix City Board of Education as the Cafeteria Manager at Ladonia Elementary School. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends. Some of her favorite dishes include Chicken-and -dressing, Seven Layer Chocolate Cake and Mandarin Orange cake just to name a few. Her gift to family members on their birthday was to bake their favorite cake.
She was an avid reader, enjoying her Bible and Christian novels. Mrs. Dawson also loved to work in her yard growing beautiful yellow (her favorite) and red roses. She also raised vegetables and canned them. In keeping with her industrious nature, she was also a very good seamstress.
Mrs. Dawson was also an avid Alabama Football Fan. Fall was a favorite time to enjoy family, football and cooking for everyone.
We will remember her as our anchor, however the strong values she instilled in us will continue to hold us steady. She will be missed so much, but the memories she created will never be lost.
Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her parents, Archie K. and Ina Louise Bridgeman; two sisters, Alice Hughes and Patricia Tyndall; one son, Gerry Eugene “Catfish” Dawson.
Survivors include her husband, Pearlis Eugene Dawson; four daughters, Susan Arrowood (Joe), Elizabeth McWilliams (Michael), Susan K. Walker and Kelli Jo Day (Greg); two sons, Otto Land (Karen) and Roy Land (Christina); one sister, Sylvia Hughes; sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank Columbus Hospice and the Home In Stead in Auburn for their compassionate care of mom.
