Charles “Butch” Edward Turnage, Sr., 80, of Phenix City, AL died at his home on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Joe Morris officiating. Entombment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Turnage was born November 01, 1945, in Columbus, GA, son of the late Elliott L. Turnage and Theresa Taylor Turnage. He was a member of the United Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL where he enjoyed worship with his family and friends. Mr. Turnage was a meat cutter by trade working for different grocery stores in the area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and found great enjoyment in just being outdoors. In his spare time, he loved to work on old cars and help his neighbors with car repairs. However, the one thing that he made top priority was time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His home going has left a void in our family that will never be filled, but we will often share stories and fond memories with each other and friends. Thank you for all of the good times and wonderful memories.
Mr. Turnage was preceded in death by his parents, Elliott L. Turnage and Theresa Taylor Turnage; siblings, Evelyn Tolden, Betty Hester, Bennie “Buddy” Turnage, Harold Turnage, and Glenda Chandler.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Shirley Grady Turnage; daughter, Sherry Turnage-Meeks (Robert “Bobby”); three sons, Charles Turnage, Jr., Thomas Turnage (Vaschon) and David Turnage; one brother, Robert Turnage; five grandchildren, Shannah Dean (Joseph), Amber Rowe, Jessica Gotham (Tommy), Jarrod Turnage (Brooke), Charles “Trey” Turnage, III; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
