Charles R. “Ronnie” Rice

Charles Ronald “Ronnie” Rice, 83, of Phenix City, AL died while at Piedmont Midtown, Columbus, GA on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM (EST) on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Grant Parker officiating and the Amen Choir singing according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour at the church on Tuesday.

Mr. Rice was born December 18, 1938 in Phenix City, AL son of the late Charles Wesley Rice and Ione Posey Rice. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, the Amen Choir, The River Rats Club and had retired from the Ledger Enquirer after 44 years as a Sales Executive. Mr. Rice loved anything related to being outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and watching wild birds in his backyard. He also enjoyed grilling, often combining this talent with his love of Alabama Football hosting game day fun with family and friends. Mr. Rice was an avid traveler who often took cruises, especially the Alaskan cruises, with his wife of 63 years. He also loved to look for the “Deal of the Day” in the paper and share this with his children. We loved him and will miss him in our daily walk, but he has left us so many fond memories to remember him.

Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kristi Leigh Slayton.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, June Barbee Rice, Phenix City, AL; two daughters, Tammy Garrison (Chris), Phenix City, AL, and Cathy Anthony (Perry), Nashville, TN; one son, Chuck Rice (Jan), Tallahassee, FL; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; several other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to your favorite charity and also to “Hug someone and tell them you love them.”
