Christine Champion Courson, 87, of Phenix City, AL died peacefully surrounded by family at Columbus Hospice House, Columbus, GA on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Friday, January 09, 2026, at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Mr. Marcus Popenfoose officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Courson was born December 12, 1938, in Dogwood, AL daughter of the late Rev. Henry Champion and Molly Lee Holsenback Champion. She was a homemaker who was blessed to be able to care for her mother and husband at the end of their lives, and to care for her children throughout their lives. Mrs. Courson loved Alabama Football and the Atlanta Braves, she rarely missed a game. She was also an avid walker at Idle Hour Park, and at her best walked 20 to 30 thousand steps a day. Mrs. Courson was an extremely giving and loving person, who would give anything she had to anyone in need.
We will remember her as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She had a sweet spirit that we all enjoyed being around. We will miss her so much in our daily lives, but we will continue to share stories of her with each other and all of her great and great-great- grandchildren often.
Mrs. Courson was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Molly Lee Champion; her husband, Leonard D. Courson; her daughter, Deborah Courson Warren; her siblings, Eva Champion, Henry Champion and Ray Champion.Survivors include three sons: Dean Courson, David Courson and Del Courson; a son-in-law Ronny Warren; two sisters, Gloria Rumph and Jimmie “Tim” Allison; twelve grandchildren, Erik Warren (Leslie), Rebecca Spear (Phillip), Brent Warren (Ashley), Jillian “Jill” Gribbin (Ryan), Danielle Courson, Michael Courson (Suzanne), David Lindsey Courson (Hannah), Tyler Courson (Amber), Colby Courson (Sam), Josh Williams (Brittney), Alex Courson and Jonathan Segar, and numerous great grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, many park friends, and a dear friend William "Bill" Thomas.
