Mr. Curtis Lee “Sonny” Lavender Jr.

February 2, 1934 — August 30, 2021

Mr. Curtis Lee “Sonny” Lavender, Jr., 87, of Salem, AL passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at Parkwood Healthcare in Phenix City, AL.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm EST Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Mark Hudson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 pm Wednesday prior to the graveside service, at the funeral home.

Mr. Lavender was born February 2, 1934 in Phenix City, AL, son of the late Curtis Lee Lavender, Sr. and Ruby Doris Lockhart Lavender.  He retired from Lummus Cotton Gin in Columbus, GA with over 25 years of service and eventually began working in the car crushing business with his late brother James in the early 60’s.  He lived on Lake Harding for many years, where he enjoyed growing roses, teaching his oldest grandchildren to fish and innertube. He had two dogs that he loved as though they were his children.  Mr. Lavender was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Crawford, AL and a long time member of Crawford United Methodist Church.  As a young man, he enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, softball and drag racing.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jessie Lee Lunsford Lavender; a son, Danny Mark Lavender; a sister, Doris Reeves and a brother, James Lavender.

He is survived by a daughter, Emma Dean Lavender Brown and husband Jerry of Salem, AL; a sister, Annie Ruth Corbitt of Phenix City, AL; a brother, Jerome Lavender and wife Carolyn of Phenix City, AL; six grandchildren, Julie Hudson (Tim), Jessica Fincher (Earnest), Jennifer Everage, Shane Lavender , Danielle Gentry (Josh), and Shelby Monhof (Brian); nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jacob, Alex, Tyler, Taylor, Emmaleigh, Izzy, Hudson and Kason; three great-great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Livi and Willow; several extended family and friends.
