CW4 (Retired) Anthony “Tony” Chavana, 79, of Phenix city, AL passed away peacefully early Friday morning, October 17, 2025, at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.

Graveside service with full Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM EST on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev Stephen Brickman officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Mr. Chavana was born May 3, 1946, in San Antonio, TX, son of the late John P. Chavana and Marie Salcedo Chavana. He served our country honorably in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War retiring after 30 years of committed service. After his Military service he became the Southeastern Loss Prevention Manager for the Tandy Corporation for 15 years. He later worked with MSM Security Services and the Columbus State University Police Department. He enjoyed working on his tractor and helping his neighbors, fishing, traveling and faithfully cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of American and the Criminal Investigation Division Agents Association. He was a Christian by faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Martha Gail Chapman Chavana, and three brothers, Ernest Chavana, John Chavana, and Thomas Chavana.

He survived by three children, Vikki Thomas, Ricky Richards, SR and Pamela Richards: two sisters, Dorothy Westlund, and Melanie Trilling, two sister-in-law’s, Theresa Chavana and Betty Chavana, and five grandchildren, Brandi Thomas, Brooke Thomas Turner, Colby Malloy ( Patrick), Kinsey Rolling ( Seth) and Ricky Richards, Jr.; five great- grandchildren, Landon Harris, Abe Rolling, Charlie Jane Rolling, Ellie Rolling and Carson Turner; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project in memory of CW4 (Retired) Anthony “Tony” Chavana.
