David Michael Mathews

David Michael Mathews, 41, of Phenix City, AL stepped into Heaven on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, while with his family.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 19, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. (EST) in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Andrew Spires officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
David was born September 17, 1980, in Columbus, GA son of George and Lynn Goolsby Mathews. He was an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church where he enjoyed worship and fellowship. David loved bowling with his special friends and was quite the bowler. He also enjoyed working on his computer and listening to Country Music. Always a giver, he was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital for a number of years where he was known by just about everyone. David also had his own special ministry of calling on a regular basis friends and family, he referred to this time as his “conference calls”. His giving and loving spirit was also well known within his neighborhood where we often walked or rode his bicycle visiting neighbors. We will remember him as being brave and strong despite the challenges he faced. We are very proud of him and know he fought the good fight.
David was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and an aunt.
Survivors include his parents, George and Lynn Mathews, Phenix City, AL; one brother, Brandon Bass (Wendy), Owenton, KY; one nephew, Mason Bass; several other family members and friends also survive.
