Donnie Ray Birge

Donnie Ray Birge, 68, of Smiths Station, AL, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, December 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EST on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, with Pastor Bobby John Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm EST prior to the funeral service.
Donnie was born on May 15, 1955, in Phenix City, AL, the son of the late Buford Birge and Eunice Hagler Birge. He was a 1973 graduate of Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia. Donnie served as a Business Agent for Dolly Madison Bakery in Columbus, Georgia for many years. He enjoyed all sports but especially loved coaching his granddaughter’s softball teams. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler, fishing, refurbishing furniture, doing yardwork, and fellowshipping with everyone he met. He was an avid Auburn fan and always loved cheering for the Tigers. His greatest joy was spending time and sharing special moments with his baby, “Addie Pearl,” and his little buddy, “Ava Mae.” He was a long-time member of Cascade Hills Church, where he served in many different areas of the church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Travis and Maxine Garner and his brother-in-law James Davis.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Tammie Thomas Birge; two daughters, Summer Birge (Carlos Perkins) and Nicole Bowers (Nick); one sister, Gloria Davis; two granddaughters, Addison and Ava Bowers; two grandsons, Ty Lindsay and Jackson Perkins; many nieces and nephews and other loving family members, his church family, and many caring friends.
Pallbearers will be Jay Wilson, Ryan Yates, Terry Ballard, Paul Price, Steve Mathis, Todd Svenson and Robert Ogburn.
