Doris L. Lee, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at Orchard View, leaving a legacy of love and compassion that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Born on July 14, 1934, in Coffee County, Alabama, Doris was a nurturing spirit whose life revolved around family and community. A funeral service in honor of Doris will be held at 4 PM on Tuesday February 10, 2026, at Schomburg Road Baptist Church, with Pastor Buddy Lamb officiating. Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Columbus Hospice in honor of Doris.
For most of her life, Doris served as a homemaker and caregiver, dedicating herself to taking care of others with a warm heart and open arms. Her intelligence shone through in everything she did, as she expertly taught her granddaughter, Lisa, the intricacies of long division despite only completing the 6th grade herself. Doris embodied a remarkable blend of intelligence and kindness, always finding ways to share her knowledge and gifts throughout the years.
Doris was known for her radiant personality, characterized by her kindness, caring nature, and a great sense of humor that could light up any room. Sundays were her favorite days, as they were the days she attended services at the Schomburg Road Baptist Church, where she had been a dedicated member for the last decade. Prior to that, she cherished over 30 years at Columbus Independent Baptist Church. Though she grew up attending church, as an adult Doris truly came to know Christ. She was a devout born again Christian and it became her life’s mission to share the gospel with everyone she met. Doris was instrumental in leading her family to Christ. She considered it her calling to reflect Christ’s love to others, a testament to her unwavering faith and dedication to her Lord and Savior.
In addition to her spiritual commitments, Doris engaged in many hobbies that brought her joy. She delighted in her weekly “Catfish Tuesday” lunches at Ryan’s with her sister, Sarah. She embraced the vibrant experiences of life, particularly traveling to Florida during Bike Week, where she enjoyed going to the spa alongside several family members and friends. An enthusiast of all things beautiful, Doris had a special fondness for girly things—her love for hair, makeup, clothes, shoes, and pocketbooks was as evident as her craving for extra hot coffee and sweet treats.
Doris dedicated her life to her family, the highlight of which was her proud role as a mother. Together with her late husband of 53 years, James L. Lee, they raised four wonderful children: daughters Sandy Adams (Bud), Vicki Mentzer, and Brenda Lawrence (Greg), and their son, Ricky Lee, who preceded her in death. Doris was also a doting grandmother to Dusty Jewel, CJ Turney, Tammy Ralston, Kathy Dunlap, David Lawrence, Lisa Adams, Jacob Adams, Jeffrey Mentzer, and Holly Probus, as well as a multitude of cherished great-grandchildren. Each moment spent with her family brought her immense joy, and the memories created together will forever be treasured.
Doris leaves behind her loving daughters, her sister Sarah Jean Money and brother Wayne Bryan (Joyce), along with her grandchildren, who will continue to celebrate her vibrant spirit. Her profound impact on her family and friends will be commemorated in the hearts of many. Doris Lee's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the beauty of family. Though she may have left this world, her legacy of kindness, compassion, and faith will echo through the lives she touched.
