Ellen Poole Stamps, 89, of Smiths Station, AL died at her home on Sunday, February 8, 2026, while under the care of Compassus Hospice.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM (EST) on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Dr. David White officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour on Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Troy Pope, Randy Horne, Chandler Sharpe, Dyer Jones, and Will Harris.
Mrs. Stamps was born June 03, 1936, in Phenix City, AL, daughter of the late Elmer H. Poole and Corine Elizabeth Koon Poole. She was married to Julian Dyer Stamps for 60 years, and they had two children. Before retiring, Mrs. Stamps worked for Woodruff–Robinson Insurance Agency, and she was also a homemaker for many years. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Phenix City, where she was involved in many activities, including teaching Sunday School in the Children’s Ministry and helping with Wednesday night suppers. Mrs. Stamps enjoyed shopping with her sister and spending time with her family who lived nearby.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was affectionately called “Honni” by her grandchildren and other children in her extended family.
Mrs. Stamps was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Corine Poole; her husband, Julian Dyer Stamps; and son-in-law, Dr. William J. “Billy” Cunningham.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim Stamps Cunningham, Midland, GA; son, Chris D. Stamps and wife Tina, Smiths Station, AL; one sister, Ruth Pope, Smiths Station, AL; three grandchildren, Fred E. “Trey” Wyrosdick, III, Christopher Stamps, and Cameron Stamps; niece, Jan Horne and husband Randy; niece, Lee Sharpe; nephew, Troy Pope and wife Kellie; and numerous other family members and caring friends.
