Ellen Evans Thomas, 75, of Smiths Station, AL, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025. A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36867, on Thursday, September 17, 2025, at 6:00 pm EST – 8:00 pm EST. A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 120 Upper River Road, Americus, GA 31709, on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm EST.
Ellen Thomas was born on April 12, 1950, to the late Leonard Newton Evans, Jr. and Sarah Blanton Evans, in Americus, GA. After graduating from West Pennant Hills High School in Sydney, Ellen went to Georgia Southwestern College, obtaining her associate’s degree as an RN. She worked in the maternity ward at Phebie Putman until retirement. Ellen knew she wanted to be a nurse since she was a teenager and loved her career choice. She traveled to numerous places for work including NSW Australia, and Kailua, Hawaii. In her free time, Ellen enjoyed reading and listening to music. She particularly enjoyed 60’s and 70’s rock. Ellen also loved animals, especially dogs and cats. She was a very caring and spiritual person. Ellen was wholesome and always friendly. Ellen held her family and her faith closest to her. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Other than her parents, Ellen is preceded in death by her two sisters, Martha Lutze and Sarah Lynne Gay; and one brother, Leonard Evans, III. Ellen is survived by her siblings, Laura Strickland and Paul Evans (Martha); in-laws, Annette Evans and Rick Lutze; nieces and nephews, Kelly Brown (Derick), Randy Gay (Charlotte), Matthew Evans (Kimberlie), Jeremy Stickland (Brittany), Joshua Strickland (Alvaro), Brittney Jones (Brian), Sabrina McGee; and Christopher Grimes (Christy); a special life-time friend, Eleanor Conroy; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, for their care of Ellen. Special thanks to Natisha Mays and Rebecca Morris for showing the love of God to our family, what a blessing you both are.
