Mrs. Eloise Hersh

Columbus GA – Mrs. Hersh was born in Franklin Tennessee, May 19, 1948, daughter of the late Robert Z. and Ava Duffield Marlin. She passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital.

The memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm at Temple Israel Tuesday May 10, 2022.

She received her Bachelor in Education from Vanderbilt-Peabody and later, her Master in Education from Columbus State University.

She taught in Tennessee and later moved to Columbus and taught in Muscogee County at Eddy Middle School for over 20 years. She was a teacher at Temple Israel Religious School for many years. She also volunteered as a reading tutor at Rothschild Middle School. Also as a member of Temple Israel, she volunteered at the Little Shop.

She was a board member, a past President, and current First Vice President of the Jewish Ladies Aid Society at Temple Israel. She was a representative from Temple Israel to the Wynnton Neighborhood Network and a co-Chair from Temple Israel for Hope Harbor.

She was also a member of Century Club.

Aside from her large and giving nature, she will best be remembered for her banana bread and Hannukah candies.

She is survived and loved by her son, Dr. Benjamin Hersh, her two daughters, Rebecca (Thomas) Godin, Sarah (Benjamin Hale) Hersh; three grandchildren, Emily Rose Godin, Joseph Thomas Godin, and Giuliana Ava Hale; her brother Gene Marlin; as well as many extended family and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents, the late Robert Z. Marlin and Ava Duffield Marlin, brothers, Robert Marlin and James Marlin, and husband of 29 years, Mr. Joseph Murray Hersh.
