Graveside Services with U. S. Army honors will be held 11:00 AM (EST) on Tuesday, September 02, 2025, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Thomas Peavy officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Pope was born May 15, 1949, in Phenix City, AL son of the late Leon Eugene Pope and Irene Hoffman Pope. He was a proud U. S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After his service to our country, he earned his HVAC certification and eventually joined and retired from the Muscogee County School System as an HVAC/Maintenance Technician.
Mr. Pope loved to fish, especially with his grandchildren, hunt and being outdoors. He had a unique hobby, he was a Flint Knapper, making arrowheads and knives from flint. He often went to gatherings with like-minded folks to enjoy fellowship and practice their hobby.
We will miss him in our daily routine, but he will always be in our hearts. When we go fishing, hunting or see a flint arrowhead we will have fond memories of him.
Mr. Pope was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Irene Pope and his siblings.
Survivors include his two children, Lindsay Pope Hood (Kenny), Phenix City, AL and Brandon Pope, Acworth, GA; two grandchildren, Hudson and Gracelyn; mother of his children, Tammy Pope; several nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 96764, Washington, DC 20090-6764.
