Florence Judy Barnes

Ms. Florence Judy Barnes, 80, of Birmingham, AL passed away Monday, August 25, 2025 at her home.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Judy was born November 27, 1944 in Birmingham, AL, daughter of the late Raphael Barnes and Rythma Barnes Rauch. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1962, where she was member of the Phi Beta Sorority. Judy continued her education and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1966. While at the university, she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and became president of Alpha Gamma in 1966.

Judy had an interesting career that started with being a Fashion Director at Pizitz for several years. She taught English in Austria for a year. Later in her career, she worked in pharmaceutical sales in San Rafael, CA. Finally, she retired where she began, in Birmingham, AL. Judy became a Master Gardener through an educational program and certification through the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. She loved cats and often fostered cats for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS). Judy’s other passion was watching Alabama football.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Barnes Harmer and brother-in-law, Bob Harmer.

Judy is survived by her aunt, Betty Jean Gullatte Pharris, a nephew, Doug Harmer; first cousins, Linda Herring, Sandra Horne, Angela Shenton, Elaine Pharris and Emily Pharris; many other cousins and extended family. She also had several special friends, Ann Sanders, Vicki Yates, Steven and Mary Beth Lloyd and their children, Shelby and Emily Lloyd, as well as, other sweet friends too numerous to mention.
