Mrs. Nix was born February 15, 1935 in Meigs County, TN daughter of the late Walter and Hattie Allen Reed. She had lived in Smiths Station, AL most of her life. Mrs. Nix worked for Judge Johnson before retiring to be a homemaker. Mrs. Nix or “Grankie” as she was known by her family, was a long-time active member of Smiths Station Baptist Church. There she was part of the FIDELS Sunday School Class as well as other activities. She loved any social activities and was known as a “Social Butterfly”, often arriving “sociably late”. Grankie was a true Southern Lady that loved her family unconditionally. She enjoyed gardening and any activity or sporting event with her grandchildren. Grankie was always their biggest fan! She has left us a legacy of love that will continue to be shared forever.

Mrs. Nix was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hattie Reed; her husband of 49 years, Charlie P. Nix; four brothers, T.J., Claude “Monk”, James “Son” and Conis Reed; five sisters, Hazel Wattenbarger, Imogene Walden, Nell Edgemon, Wanda Rinehart and Mary Reed Shoemaker.

Survivors include her son, Chuck Nix (DaRell), Smiths Station, AL; two grandchildren, Kaci Nix and Chance Nix both of Smiths Station, AL; one sister, Peggy Sliger (Edwin), TN; two nephews, Dwain Sliger, MO and Donnie (Linda), Lathem; numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to her caregivers, Linda Newsome, Crystal Smith and Summer Smith. These ladies are more than caregivers, they are family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her memory to Columbus Hospice, www.columbushospice.com or Smiths Station Baptist Church,  www.ssbaptistchurch.org, attn: FIDELS Class.
