Mr. Fred A. Miller, 85, of Phenix City, AL passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Piedmont Northside Hospital in Columbus, GA.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm EDT, Monday, October 30, 2023 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Miller was born May 14, 1938 in Greensboro, NC, son of the late Wiley Alfred Miller, Jr. and Ellen Aiken Martin.  For most of his career, he owned and operated Miller PreCast, an architectural concrete business.  Among his hobbies were gardening, fishing, hiking and playing with the dogs, but his favorite was golf.  He was a long time member of The Country Club of Columbus.  Mr. Miller won numerous tournaments and had 13 holes in 1.  He also shot his age many times.  Additionally, he participated in the House of Hero’s through the Columbus Country Club and always helped with the kids golf training and tournaments.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Martin; two sisters, Beverly Gish and Glenda Carpenter; and his step-father, Grady Martin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Margaret Hare Miller of Phenix City, Al; two sons, Mike Miller and wife Julie of Shreveport, LA and Gary Miller of Columbus, GA; a daughter, Wendy Wall and husband Larry of Salem, AL; three sisters, Mary Jane Carter and husband Mark of Randelman, NC, Janice Robinette and husband David of Pleasant Grove, NC and Sandy Newman of Greensboro, NC; a brother, Larry Martin and wife Peggy of Greensboro, NC; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Tolbert, Alan Goodroe (Kelly), Melisa Cardinal (Tyler), Michael Miller, Kendall Woodham (Michael), Chandler Wall, Garrett Wall and Emily Wall; five, great-grandchildren, Hayden Nicholson, Harlie Tolbert, Lilly Goodroe, Logan Woodham and Penelope Cardinal; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the House of Hero’s, PAWS, the East Alabama Humane Society or Fore Kids Columbus.
