George Carter Lewis Sr

June 11, 1919 — June 16, 2013

Mr. George Carter Lewis Sr., 94 of Smiths Station, Alabama went to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Parkwood Nursing Home in Phenix City, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon EST on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Bro. Wayne Ivey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm EST on Tuesday evening at the Vance Memorial Chapel. Mr. Lewis was born in Chambers County, Alabama, son of the late Edward and Emma Lewis. Mr. Lewis also served his country in the United States Army during World War II. His passion in life was Smiths Station Football where he served at the players Gatekeeper for over 40 years and was inducted into the Smiths Station High School Hall of Fame for his dedicated service. Mr. Lewis was also retired from Swift Textile. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years Elvirey Glass Lewis, four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Lewis is survived by one daughter Margaret Ann Lewis of Smiths, AL; one son George C. Lewis, Jr. and Sandra Faye Nicholson of Phenix City, AL; one brother Luther Lewis of Woodland, AL; 5 grandchildren, Danny Lewis, Randy Lewis, Candy Miles, Theresa McCain, Tabitha Lewis; and many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
