Hilda May Abney

Hilda May Abney, 77, of Phenix City AL, passed away on February 15, 2026. Private services will be held at a later date.

Hilda was born in Cottonwood, AL, on December 11, 1948, to the late James L. May and Vonnie Lee Adams May. She worked at First Union Bank in mortgage lending for years until retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed listening to music and watching TV. Hilda played cards with a group of friends regularly and enjoyed attending church at Woodland Baptist Church when she could. She was a great cook with her potato salad being praised as the best there is. She was pleasant to be around and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Hilda Abney is preceded in death by her husband, James Larry Abney; son, Jeff Abney; parents, James L. May and Vonnie Lee Adams May; sisters, Shirley Robinson and Glenda Johnson; and brother, James H. May.

She is survived by her son, Tim Abney; sisters, Myra M. Webb (Paul), Faye Langley, Vicki May, and Joan Lammers; and grandson, James Alexander Abney.
