J. W. "James" Phillips

Fortson

J.W. "James" Phillips, 94, of Fortson, Georgia passed away late Monday evening, February 19, 2024 at Columbus Hospice House. 

 A funeral service will be held at Chapel of the Pines in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Friday February 23, 2024 beginning at 3:00 pm (EST) with Pastor Brad Parker officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, also at the Chapel of the Pines.

J.W. Phillips was born on December 22, 1929 in Talbot County, Georgia to the late Luther Phillips and Martha Lizzie Anthony Phillips. He worked as a supervisor for Lummus Industries building cotton gins. James had a love for the outdoors. In his free time he enjoyed working in the yard, fishing, and most of all camping with his beloved wife alongside their friends. James left behind a legacy of wisdom and love which will live on in the hearts of those that knew him.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 68 years, Billie Dove Phillips; daughter Sheila Phillips; as well as several of his siblings. 

He is survived by his son Randy Phillips of Fortson, Georgia; grandson Randy Phillips Jr. and his wife Lavora of Jemison, Alabama;  grandson Mallory Murdock of Columbus, Georgia; grandson Jonathan Phillips and his wife Elizabeth of Fortson, Georgia; great-granchildren Jackson and Evie Phillips; as well as several of his siblings and countless friends.
