Mr. James Fredrick Anderson, 92, of Hatchechubbee, AL passed away Wednesday July 3, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

Interment with military honors will follow at Hatchechubbee Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 am EDT, one hour prior to the service, at the church.

Mr. Anderson, “Pappy” or “Andy” as he was known to family and friends, was born April 2, 1932 in Hatchechubbee, AL son of the late William Howard Anderson and Gertrude Ingram Anderson. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, serving two tours in Vietnam, until he retired with just over 20 years of service. After his service in the military, Mr. Anderson carried a rural mail route in Hatchechubbee for over 35 years. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his grass and used the skills he learned in the Air Force to do some “shade tree” mechanic work. He was quite the “fix-it” man which showed up in his “gang mower” that he designed and put together to cut his large front yard. Many a car almost ran off the road trying to figure out what he was doing. Mr. Anderson was a founding member of the Hatchechubbee Fire Department and a life long member of Hatchechubbee Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and held several other positions down through the years.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bernice Land Anderson; as well as, four sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Anderson is survived by a daughter, Pam Simpson and husband Tim of Hatchechubbee, AL; a son, Jamie Anderson and wife Cathy of Hatchechubbee, AL; grandchildren, Angela Copeland, Jonathan Simpson (Bridgette) and Jacob Anderson; great-grandchildren, AbbyKate, Ally, Everly, Carter and Ezekiel; a very dear friend, Herman Kizzie; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of Christian brothers and sisters.
