Sfc (Ret) James L. Rash

Retired SFC James L. Rash was born on June 23, 1943, the 2nd child of six siblings, to the late Elder Ernest and Bertha Rash of Sunflower, Mississippi. He gained his Heavenly Wings to rest from the cares of this earthly life’s journey and received his Crown on March 18, 2023. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Rash, Jr. and Nathaniel Rash.

James accepted Christ as his Personal Savior at a very young age and became a member of Rash Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of his father, the late Elder Ernest Rash. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He retired with honors following 21 years of dedicated service and became owner/operator of “Rash Home Improvement.” He later moved his membership to Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. J. H. Flakes, Jr. James was a very humble person who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, remodeling and repairing homes. Utilizing his skills as a carpenter gave James the ultimate pleasure because he was able to help others.

In deep sorrow, remaining to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 34 years, Ida M. Rash; three daughters, Melinda Rash Holloway (Rodney) of Ft. Mitchell, AL, Michell Rash of Acworth, GA and Akeatha Richardson of Eufaula, AL; one son, Craig Vance of Sunflower, MS; three sisters, Maglene Coleman of Chicago, IL, Doris Konneh of Decatur, GA and Linda Rash of Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Clara Tuggle of Eufaula, AL; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Monday, March 27, 2023 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Johnny H. Flakes, III officiating. The interment will conclude at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
