James Robert Worthy

LCDR (USN Ret) James “Jimmy” Robert Worthy, age 60, resident of Valley, Alabama, passed away at his home on Friday, April 15, 2022. Graveside services with military honors is scheduled at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery on Friday, April 22, 2022, 1:30 p.m. (EST) according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, Alabama. Officiating the service will be Reverend Boyd Cochran.
Jimmy, son of the late Zema Floyd Worthy and Frances Ladelle East Worthy, was born September 25,1961 in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated in 1979 from Central High School and later received a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. Jimmy served his country honorably as a submariner in the United States Navy and retired in 2004. During his distinguished military career, he received numerous awards to include the Joint Service Commendation Medal; five Navy/Marine Corp Commendation Medals; two Navy/Marine Corp Achievement Medals; and Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal. Jimmy loved the Lord, his country, and his family. He enjoyed grilling out and riding on Lake Harding in his pontoon boat. Jimmy also loved to play his guitar and sing at family gatherings and parties at his home on the backwaters. He was an avid Auburn fan; loved to research material – “always wanting more knowledge,” and enjoyed watching videos on YouTube. The family remembers him as a loving, kind, and generous man who loved everyone, he was the ultimate protector for his family.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Laura Baxley Worthy; one daughter, Megan Melissa Worthy and her boyfriend Alan of Huntsville, Alabama; one son, James Matthew Worthy of Opelika, Alabama; brother-in-law, Van L. Baxley and his wife Sherry; seven brothers and sisters, Thomas Worthy and his wife Donna of Smiths Station, Alabama, Vicki Worthy of Phenix City; Patsy Baker and her husband Kenny of Dublin, Georgia, Carol Wilhelm and her husband LaVerle of San Diego, California, Timothy Worthy of Alexander City, Alabama, Kimberly Worthy of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Danny Worthy and his wife Lisa of Phenix City; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends throughout the country.
