Jeanette Saffold Otero

Jeanette Saffold Otero, 83, of Phenix City, Al, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026.

A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36867, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 5:00 pm EST to 7:00 pm EST. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Otero will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 2:00 pm EST. Private interment will be at Laurel Cemetery, Alexander City, AL.

Jeanette Otero was born in Alexander City, Al, on June 16, 1942, to the late Tom Saffold (Big Daddy) and Vera Curtis Hand (Big Mama). After graduating high school, Mrs. Otero worked with St. Francis Hospital where she served in a variety of roles ensuring the patients were well cared for during their visit. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and shared this love of reading with members of her book club. Mrs. Otero was a kind and loving woman who loved her family dearly. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Otero is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Julius Otero; son, Dr. Jay Michael Otero; brothers, Eugene Saffold, Bobby Manuel Saffold and Paul Darrell Saffold; and a sister, Bonnie Dunaway.

Mrs. Otero is survived by her son, Darren Otero and wife Lynn of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, (her twin) Annette Sanchez of Phenix City, Al, and Marie Smith of Columbus, GA; two granddaughters, Julianna Otero and Isabella Otero; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
