Jerry Burkhart, 75, of Pine Mountain, Georgia, passed peacefully at home on June 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 20, 1949, and lived a life marked by generosity, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. A visitation to honor Jerry’s life will be held on Friday June 20, 2025 from 5 PM to 6 PM at Vance Brooks Funeral Home 4048 Macon Rd., Columbus, Georgia 31907.
Jerry proudly served as an infantryman in the United States Army for 23 years. His honorable service earned him numerous decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal, and he retired as a Sergeant First Class. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and he instilled that same sense of duty in his children, both of whom followed in his footsteps and joined the Army.
As a devoted husband for 53 years, Jerry cherished his wife, Anna Burkhart. Jerry was truly the love of her life. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Jerry's sense of humor was a guiding force in their home, allowing him to joke right up until the end, bringing smiles to the faces of those around him even in difficult times.
Jerry took great pride in his two children, daughter Julia Miller and son Jerry Burkhart Jr., who, alongside his wife Ginger, have continued to carry on his legacy. Family gatherings were sacred to him, particularly during the holidays, where he would create lasting memories with his loved ones. He shared his passion for sports with both of his children, training them to run, which led to a scholarship for his daughter and multiple marathons for his son.
An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Jerry's love for sports was evident throughout his life, and he also enjoyed spending time fishing with his family. His favorite moments were spent with his family, particularly with his beloved granddaughter Gabby, affectionately nicknamed "Princess." Attending Gabby's college graduation recently was a significant milestone for both, a moment that showcased their special connection and brought immense pride to Jerry.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife Anna, daughter Julia, son Jerry Jr. and his wife Ginger, and his grandchildren Gabby Miller, Delsin Burkhart, and Alexis Burkhart. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love, dedication, and protection for his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Tasso Burkhart, and his brothers Robert, Richard, and James Burkhart Jr.
Jerry Burkhart’s absence will be profoundly felt, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of love and devotion will echo in the lives he has touched.
