Joann Smith Waldrup

JoAnn Smith Waldrup, 83, of Phenix City, AL died at Arabella Nursing Home, Phenix City, AL with her family by her side.

Funeral Services will be held 2:30 PM (EST) Friday, February 24, 2023 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Robb Goodman officiating.  A private interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Waldrup was born March 05, 1939 in Phenix City, AL daughter of the late John O. Smith and Bessie Geneva Tillery Smith Benedict. She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church, however she had been a long time active member of Golden Acres Baptist Church. Mrs. Waldrup enjoyed fishing and had her own private “honey hole”. She also enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, jet skies and traveling in the Smokey Mountains with her late husband, Walter Waldrup. She leaves us with many wonderful memories to cherish.

Mrs. Waldrup was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Walter Waldrup; parents, John O. Smith and Bessie Geneva Benedict; stepfather, Jerome A. Benedict and a brother, Charles A. Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Waldrup Cole, (William); two sons, Ken Waldrup (Debbie) and Scott Waldrup; one sister, Sandra Cox (Mickey); five grandchildren, Kimberly Chandler (Robbie), Matthew Waldrup (Lindsey), Brooke Elston (Josh), Chad Cole and Allie Kyser; three precious great-grandchildren, Peyton, Cole and Liam; special family friends, Mandy and Jeff Kyser and Mike and Sheila Suber; “granddog” Bo; several nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the teams at Arabella Nursing Home and Columbus Hospice for their attentive and loving care.
