Joanne Slater Wilson

JoAnne Wilson, 66, of Salem, Alabama passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the Bethany Hospice House in Auburn, Alabama, surrounded by her family.

JoAnne was born January 25, 1957 in Albany, New York, to the late Stanley and Hazel Slater. A product of a military family, she was afforded the opportunities to travel both the United States, as well as spending time overseas.  She gave birth to her daughter, Brandy in 1974 while living in Fairbanks, Alaska.  JoAnne would eventually drop her roots in Georgia and married the love of her life, Bert Wilson, on June 1, 2001.  She worked for Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant in Columbus and the Greater Atlanta area for over 25 years.  She never met a stranger, enjoyed planning family get-togethers and loved playing her online games.  She loved playing in the dirt, tending to her garden and enjoyed spending time with her fur babies.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Hazel Slater and her father-in-law, Norm Fischbeck.

JoAnne is survived by her husband, Bert Wilson; her daughter, Brandy Lee Tapley (Mark); her grandchildren, Nicholas Tapley (Amanda) and Alexander Tapley (Siehara); her great-granddaughters, Faye Marie and soon-to-be born, Wendy; her siblings, Michael Slater (Bonnie); Keith Slater (Cindy); Sheryl Wadkins (Travis); nephews Chad Slater (Amber) and Colby Stubbs; mother-in-law Judy Fischbeck; sister-in-law Jennifer Wilson-Gossett (Beth); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends.

Visitation services will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. EST at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m.
