Mr. Kenneth LeRoy Funderburk, 89, of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 8th, 2025 at the Columbus Hospice House.
A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Columbus, Georgia, at 11:00 am, on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 with Dr. Jimmy Elder will officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service, at First Baptist Church.
Kenneth was born on September 13th, 1936, son of the late Lemuel LeRoy Funderburk and Ruth Duke Funderburk. After graduating from Central High School, Kenneth attended Howard University (now Samford) in Birmingham, Alabama. After receiving his Batchelor’s Degree, he attended Mississippi State University where he pursued a Masters Degree. After serving in the United States Army, Kenneth attended the University of Alabama School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in 1964.
Kenneth married Judy Barbee in 1958. He remained her loving and devoted husband for sixty-seven years until his passing. Kenneth is survived by his wife Judy, his daughter Rebecca Young (Charlie) of Cary, North Carolina, his daughter Kimberly Edwards (David) of Maitland, Florida, his son Eric Funderburk (Jo Anna) of Phenix City, Alabama, his grandchildren Charles “Chick” Young, III (Heather), Tricia Dawson (Cameron), Thomas Young (Rebecca), Kenneth Edwards (Ruta), Savannah Edwards, Meredith Robles (Kyle), John “Jack” Funderburk, and Maggie Funderburk, his step-grandchildren Hannah Parker, Grace Parker, Spencer Parker, and Miller Parker, his great-grandchildren Charles “Charlie” Young, IV, Olivia Young, Davis Dawson, and Amelia Dawson. Kenneth is also survived by his brother, Robert Funderburk and preceded in death by another brother, Duke Funderburk.
Kenneth practiced law in Phenix City, Alabama for over 60 years. In addition to Kenneth’s successes in the practice of law, he was a successful entrepreneur, published author, respected artist, accomplished sailor, world traveler, and avid singer, who enjoyed singing in church choirs around Phenix City and Columbus, most recently with the choir at First Baptist Church in Columbus, GA.
