Lex Edward Brown, 97, of Smiths Station, AL died at his home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 while under the care of Gentiva Hospice. 

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM (EST) on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Dr. David Kees officiating. A private interment with U. S. Army honors will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening 5:00 till 7:00 PM (EST) at the funeral home. 

Mr. Brown was born June 14, 1926, in Geneva County, AL son of the late M. M. Brown and Annie Belle Dorriety Brown, however he was raised in the Josie Community of Pike County, AL. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Mr. Brown had retired from Sears as an appliance repairman after 35 years of service. He was also an active member of Smiths Station Baptist Church serving in various ministries. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish, but he was not prone to clean or eat any of the fish he caught. The legacy he leaves behind is solid and our family will continue to build upon it.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, M. M.   and Annie Belle Brown; his wife of 70 years, Hazel Locklar Brown; three brothers, Roy Brown, Kent Brown and Reginald Brown, and two sisters, Hazel Golden and Virginia Dykes.

He is survived by two sons, Ben Brown and wife Sandra, Montgomery, AL and Steve Brown, Phenix City, AL; two sisters, Sybil Townsend, Smiths Station, AL and Annie Ruth Avant, Dothan, AL; one brother, Donnie Brown, Georgetown, GA; four grandchildren, Eric Brown, Stuart Brown and wife Sara, Rebecca Brown and Lori Ashley Peaden and her husband, Tommy; four great-grandchildren; many extended family members and many caring friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Peggy Battles for her tender loving care of our dad. She was a Godsend for us.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Lex Brown may be made to Smiths Station Baptist Church at 2460 Panther Parkway, Smiths Station, AL 36877.
