Lillian Harris Scarborough, 92, of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 12, 2026. A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 4:00 pm EDT to 6:00 pm EDT. A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Magnolia Dr. N., Tifton, GA 31794, on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 1:00 pm EDT, officiated by her son-in-law, Bob Wescott.
Lillian Scarborough was born on October 25, 1933, in Ty Ty, GA, to the late Daniel Lee Harris and Nancy Layfield. At a young age, Lillian married the love of her life, Albert J. Scarborough, and remained his loving and faithful wife for 43 years until his passing. She loved her career at Tifton Christian Development Institute as a Preschool teacher and retired after 23 years. In Tifton, she attended First Assembly of God and volunteered for Hospice of Tifton for 5 years. When she moved to Columbus, she became a member of Cascade Hills Church and volunteered much of her time at the church for 22 years. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and a quilting group for The Lioness Project, making blankets for hospice and the VA. She was a tutor and loved to help others learn and grow. She was loving, caring, and selfless in her words and actions. Lillian was a social butterfly, being a part of numerous social groups throughout her entire life, even at the age of 92. In her free time, she enjoyed crafts in addition to quilting such as crocheting and sewing. She was a great cook and enjoyed hosting family gatherings in her younger years. She was a genuine woman with a deep founded faith, heart of gold, and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lillian Scarborough is preceded in death by her son, Albert Allen Scarborough; stepmother, Margie Alred Harris; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Lillian is survived by her daughters, Jenny Arey and husband Bill, and Ann Wescott and husband Bob; sisters, Margaret Lawrence, and Evelyn Willis and husband Ken; brothers, Havard Harris and wife Sandra, Karl Harris and wife Pat, and Wilber Harris and wife Judy; grandchildren, Mandy (Jose) Schieneman, Robin (Joe) Sandoval, Melissa Arey, Jessalan (Haden) Smith, Trisha (Christian) Smedberg, Joshua Wescott, Missy Scarborough, Tina Drawdy and Al (Mary) Scarborough; great-grandchildren, Jenna (Jon) Kapfer, Wyatt Brewer, Gracie (Wyatt) Lloyd, Jessanna Smith, Celie Smith, Dax Smith, Caroline Gnann, Trenton Beckwith, Jaxton Schieneman, Abbie Schieneman, Eden Scarborough, Dave Scarborough, Adam Scarborough, Slade Sandoval, Timmy McLean, Andy McLean, Lilly McLean, Ady Kapfer, Ilyana Scarborough, Kamila Scarborough, Sylver Musgrove, Blythe Musgrove and Arrow Scarborough; and one great-great-grandson, Kash Lloyd.
