Mrs. Linda Flynn Scarborough

June 29, 1947 — August 4, 2022

Linda Flynn Scarborough, a resident of Salem, AL, left this world and entered Christ’s arms on August 4th at the age of 75.

Linda was born in Smyrna, Georgia, on June 29, 1947, to Harold and Kathryn Flynn, who provided a loving home. Linda was the oldest of three children. She had one sister, Bonnie, and one brother, Edward, whom she loved dearly.   After graduating from Campbell High School, she attended West Georgia College where she met and married the love of her life, Jerry. They were happily married for more than 50 years.

Linda’s greatest aspiration was to be a mother, and a great one she was! God gifted her four beautiful children to love: Lesley, Jason, Jared, and Kindall. She happily spent her entire adult life as a homemaker, sacrificially loving and serving her family. Her youngest children recount that as busy as school mornings were, Linda would wake up every day and prepare a hot breakfast for her family. Like the Proverbs 31 woman, she was wise, thoughtful, and a hard worker. She did whatever it took to support her family, and she did it with humility and grace.

Linda was constantly smiling, and she exuded a contagious joy. That joy came from her hope in Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord. Linda became a Christian at a very young age, and she took seriously Christ’s command to love God and others. She was kind, compassionate, and always willing to put aside her own needs to serve others. Everyone could confidently say that they were a better, more joyful person having been around Linda.

There was no one more faithful than Linda. Throughout the years God laid upon Jerry’s heart a desire to serve several different ministries, and Linda was always right there by his side, supporting and encouraging his dreams.   She most certainly was the wind beneath Jerry’s wings.   Her children recount that their mother was always present. She would bend over backward to attend every ballgame, awards ceremony, piano recital, or other life event because she loved her kids and wanted to support them. Linda was also a faithful friend, always willing to lend a listening ear and help wherever she could.

Though Linda was faithful to her family and friends, she was first and foremost faithful to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She fought a hard battle with breast cancer for nine months, yet she never wavered in her faith. She continued to worship God, praising Him for His goodness and mercy, until her final dying breath. Though her physical body weakened, her spiritual body strengthened, eventually to Glory.   Many were encouraged in their faith having watched Linda endure so much yet still loved Christ to the end.

Whereas many are too busy to minister to others, Linda never was. She would make time to get to know you, asking heartfelt questions and listening to what you had to say. She always made time to pray for others and share the Gospel when possible. She genuinely cared for others, and because of that, others genuinely cared for her. Many grieve her passing but take comfort in the fact that she’s now in the presence of her Creator.

Linda is survived by her husband, Jerry; her four children, Lesley (Tom) Smith, Jason (Cindy) Scarborough, Jared (Brittany) Scarborough, and Kindall (Brandon) Dobson; four grandchildren, Timothy Scarborough, Andrew Scarborough, Nora Dobson, and Ian Dobson; one grand-dog, Meatloaf; her brother, Edward (Cindy) Flynn; her sister, Bonnie Cohoon; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and Linda Keown, Steve and Dee Scarborough, and Wayne and Rhonda Scarborough; and many other beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews in Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia.

The family will be forever grateful for the doctors and nurses at the John Amos Cancer Center and the nurses and staff at Kindred Hospice, and for all the food, cards, visits, e-mails, texts, and calls over the past few months.    Most of all, thank you for the thousands of prayers uttered on Linda’s behalf.  We felt them.

There will be a private graveside service on Monday morning, August 8, 2022  followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1pm at Linda’s home church, Lakewood Baptist Church, 4011 Lakewood Drive, Phenix City, AL 36867.  The family will receive friends Monday ,after the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, in Linda’s memory, please consider a tax-deductible donation to either Calvary Children’s Home, 1430 Lost Mountain Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127 or to Morningstar International, Post Office Box 1111, Columbus, GA 31902.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her … a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”    Proverbs 31:28 and 30.    “To God Be The Glory”
