Loumerle “Merle” Wambles Norton

Loumerle “Merle” Wambles Norton, 84, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, November 15, 2023, in the comfort of her home in Phenix City while surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm EST, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Jonathan Pike and Rev. Shane Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Ms. Norton was born September 12, 1939, in Coffee County, AL, daughter of the late William Henry Wambles and Minnie Ola Owens Wambles. She was employed with the Columbus Ledger Enquirer in retail advertising with many loyal years of dedicated service. She was a lady of great character who was devoted to all her family. She enjoyed visits to the country, reading, and sharing special moments with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Phenix City and in past loved devoting her time and efforts with the Happy Hearts at Woodland Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bobby H. Norton; daughter, Lisa Norton; sister, Judy Weber and sister-in-law, Bunk Wambles.
She is survived by her son, Rusty Norton and wife LaDania of Phenix City, AL; four sisters, Annette Parker and husband Ray of Jack, AL, Mae Rainey and husband Ronnie of Spring Hill, AL, Joyce Sanders and husband Oneal of Victoria, AL, and Henrietta Allen and husband Terry of Jack, AL; two brothers, Charles Wambles and wife Cindy of Jack, AL, and Buddy Wambles and wife Jane of Victoria, AL; two grandchildren, Brandon Norton and wife Mary, and Andrew Norton; two precious great grandchildren, Lilah, and Tobias; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and many caring friends.
The family of Ms. Merle Norton would like to acknowledge a special thank you to all her caregivers, Diane Mock, Stacy Near, Jennifer Deppe, and Susan Stinson for their dedicated care and love shown to Ms. Norton.
