Ret. USAF Major Ronald Richard Harvey Lowery, 73, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Friday, April 19, 2024 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Bishop Murray Zogg officiating. Interment with U. S. Air Force Honors will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at the funeral home on Friday.

Born in Orangeburg, SC to James and Elizabeth Lowery. Their young family moved to Phenix City, Alabama where he was raised and called home. He graduated from Central High School in 1968 and attended Auburn University before he enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served the United States of America. He retired as a Major after a successful 23-year Air Traffic Control career. He valued education and received both a bachelor and two master’s degrees and deeply enjoyed teaching math to middle school students in his second career. He enjoyed traveling the US and abroad, teaching, was a published author, and master craftsman, especially with wood. In retirement he returned home to Phenix City, Alabama. He reconnected with a childhood friend and married his wife, Nancy. He enjoyed the concluding season of his life surrounded by family. Nancy has been a tremendous caregiver and beloved companion.

Mr. Lowery is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Alta Mae Taylor, who helped raise him, his parents James and Elizabeth Lowery, brother Michael, and previous wife Joan Harden.

Ronnie is survived by his wife Nancy Gowan Holt, his siblings, Jim (Darleen), Debi (Larry), Paul (Lynn), David (Lori), his two sons Christopher (Maranda) and Joshua (Amanda), and 9 grandchildren, Logan (Gaby), Ashlyn (Caleb), Maggie, Lily, Kendra (Brandon), Haley, Jackson, Amber (Santos) Benitez and Noah & Marissa along with multiple nieces & nephews.
