Margaret "Peggy" E. Dawson, 90, of Seale, AL died peaceful surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Monday, May 04, 2026, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Richie Ashburn and Chaplain Ric Durham officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Dawson was born September 04, 1935, in Helena, MT daughter of the late Mike and Estelle Humphress Poor. She was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Peggy loved to sing and sang solos and in choirs all of her life. Singing a solo in church was how she met her husband to be! She also was an excellent seamstress and sewed everything from doll clothes to wedding dresses. She was generous with her talents and time and helped sew covers for pillows and other items that were used for ministries she was involved with. She was a Montana girl at heart but traveled with her husband all over the world and always loved to shop and bargain for antiques wherever she went.
Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Estelle Poor; two brothers, Mahlon Poor and Jay Hollman and a sister, Billee Poor Burnett.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Col (Ret) Chaplain Lewis Edward Dawson, Seale, AL; four children, Eddy Dawson (Marsha), David Dawson (Sandy Stevens), Debby Dawson Durham (Ric), Ginny Dawson Ashburn (Richie); a sister, Letty Eaton (Gary) and a brother, Lanny Poor; nine grandchildren, Matthew Dawson, Andrew Dawson, Liz Dawson, Charlotte Dawson, Sam Dawson, Seth Durham, Kenan Durham, Hillary Ashburn Stamey (Wayne) and Caleb Ashburn (Gabby); three great-grandchildren, Will Stamey (Whippoorwill) , Colt (Pistol) Stamey and Lewis Tate (Sugar Dolly) Stamey; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Flowers will be graciously accepted or donations in her honor can be made to: WMU Foundation Joy Fund, 100 Missionary Ridge, Birmingham, AL 35242.
