Marie was born in Columbus, Ga, on September 11, 1944, to the late Willis Wells and Mary Ella Starling Wells. After high school, Marie became an administrative professional at Jay Automotive Group where she remained a dedicated and skilled employee for 29 years until retirement. She was a member of Weems Road Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed attending until she was no longer able to. Marie enjoyed reading and tending to her flowers, always keeping her yard well-maintained. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, often cooking and hosting gatherings. Some of her best memories were traveling the US in an RV with her husband, Jim. She often reminisced their many journeys, especially the trip to St. Andrews State Park and Maggie Valley in North Carolina. Marie went to the beach as often as possible but also loved the mountains. She was caring and selfless, always providing for those in need and cheering others up. She was also compassionate, and always easy going. She loved to play board games and card games, usually resulting in her competitive nature coming out. Most of all, Marie loved spending quality time with her family and making memories. She will be forever cherished and deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her brothers, Willis C. Wells, Jr., and Donald Wells.

Marie is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jim Tomlin; son, Mark Tomlin and wife Shannon; daughters, Donna Beals-Reed, Barbara Ann Beals, and Jamie Rodgers and husband John; sister, Carolyn Brooker (Harry); grandchildren, Troy Reed (Tracy), Travis Reed (Shannon), Michael Cosby, Dylan Tomlin (Katey), Jonathan Cosby, Joshua Cosby (Shirley), and Caylee Cornell; great-grandchildren, Gracie Reed, Cooper Reed, Tripp Tomlin, Tobias Otero, and Bryce Lane; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
