Mrs. Marilyn Jean Mitchell, 89, of Phenix City, AL passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am EDT Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Auburn Heights Church with Rev. Rodney Mitchell, Dr. Wayne Scarborough and Rev. David Dollar officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service, at the church. Pallbearers will be, Hunter Good, Peyton Good, John Mitchell, Theo Ridley, David Ridley, Scott Field, Shane Blankenship and Sean Lefranc.
Mrs. Mitchell was born March 5, 1936 in Washington, IN, daughter of the late Gordon Wesley Colvin and Estel Mae Jones Colvin. She spent her life caring for her family. Her hobbies included playing the piano and cooking. Mrs. Mitchell was a long time member of Auburn Heights Church, where she worked with the Nursery Ministry for many years.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Leonard E. Mitchell; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Mitchell and a brother, Paul Potter.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by two daughters, Sandra Lance and husband David of Salem, AL and Penny Good and husband Scott of Smiths Station, AL; three sons, Gary Mitchell and wife Dianne of Salem, AL, Keith Mitchell and wife Jeanne of Phenix City, AL and Rev. Rodney Mitchell and wife Angie of Phenix City, AL; two sisters, Suzie Scott and husband Butch and Becky Bottoms and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Amy Smith (John Paul), Jenny Scruggs (Tony), Tracy Underwood (Tony), Abby Dewberry (T. J.), Ashley Benvenuto, Hunter Good (Jordan), Peyton Good, John Mitchell (Amelia), Katie Clampit (Jonathan), Shane Blankenship (Kim), Gabie McGonegle (Timm) and Sean Lefranc; eight great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren, several extended family members and numerous friends.
