Mark “Monk” Steven Sanders, 69, of Phenix City, AL passed away late Monday night, January 5, 2026, at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2:00 pm EST – 4:00 pm EST at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36768. Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Dewayne Dean officiating on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 am EST. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mark was born October 4, 1956, in Phenix City, AL, to Doris Evelyn Sanders and the late Rex Sanders. He retired as a manager for Old Dominion Trucking and Burdett Trucking after many years of dedicated service. He was an exceptional athlete and loved to play golf with his son, Steven. He also loved watching sports, especially rooting for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Most of all, Mark loved being with his family. Some of his best memories are from trips to the beach with his friends and family. He was a loving and caring son, father, brother, and grandfather. He was humble and supportive, always being there for those he loved. Mark was a patient, compassionate and dependable man who will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved him.

Other than his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Vicky Sanders Abbott; and sister-in-law, Carla Head Sanders.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Ward Sanders; his friend and companion, Tracey Hall; two children, Kristin Sanders Willetts and husband Michael, and Mark “Steven” Sanders, II and wife Megan; two brothers, Rex Ward Sanders and Nick Sanders; seven precious grandchildren, Trey, Trent, Miller, Liza, Isla, Mark Steven “Tripp” Sanders, III, and Ty; nieces and nephews, Carly Wisnewski, Colby Abbott, and James Sanders; other loving family members, and many caring friends.
