Mary Celia Scoggins Crowson Maddox

Mary Celia Scoggins Crowson Maddox, 93, of Phenix City, AL died at her home on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA with Rev. David Dollar officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. A meal will be provided by her church for the family at her home immediately following the conclusion of the services. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maddox was born August 30, 1931, in Calera, AL daughter of the late L. Quinn Scoggins and Beulah Blair Scoggins. She had worked at Ft. Benning as a Medical Admissions Clerk and in finance at Martin Army Hospital with 26 years of service. Mrs. Maddox accepted Christ on July 26, 1945, and served Him faithfully until she was called home. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Smiths Station, Al., where she enjoyed worshiping with family and friends.

Mrs. Maddox was preceded in death by her parents, L. Quinn and Beulah Scoggins; the father of her children, Andrew Lincoln Crowson and her second husband, Calvin Maddox and son-in-law, Ralph William O’Brien; a daughter, Andrea Leah Crowson Luttrell; siblings, James L. Scoggins and Ina S. Crowson; niece, Carol Rose.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela O’Brien, Smiths Station, AL, two sons, David L. Crowson (Cathy) and John Crowson all of Phenix City, AL; and Calvin’s daughters, Deborah Richter, FL., and Ruth Pudzis (Steve), Gainesville, GA; grandsons, Christopher O’Brien (Stephanie), Salem, AL, Brian Boyette (Jamie), of Phenix City and Jeremy Boyette (Lyndsey) Smiths, AL; and Calvin’s grandsons, Justin Strickland, Joe Strickland both of Walker, LA, Scott Richter, North Platt, FL, several other family members and friends.
