Mason Rex Mclaney

Mason Rex McLaney, 20, of Salem, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2023, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
A Service Honoring his life will be at 2:00 PM EST on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Golden Acres Baptist Church located at 3405 S. Railroad Street Phenix City, AL 36867 with Rev. Ray Cummings and Coach Robert Kelley officiating.
Mason was born in Columbus, Georgia the son of Michael Rex McLaney and Melinda McLaney Daniel. Early in life Mason developed a passion and skill for the game of golf and he achieved many awards for his abilities with this gift. Mason was known as a person who was full of life and loyal to all his friends and family. He had a passion for music and carried a guitar everywhere he went. Above all, Mason loved his family and enjoyed spending time with each of them. Mason had a passion to seek and know more about God which is best described in 1 Corinthians 13:12 “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything, just as God now knows me completely.”
Preceding Mason in death was his maternal grandfather Terry Nichols.
In addition to parents, Mason leaves behind his sister Olivia Wilson; step-father Gary Daniel; paternal grandparents Rex and Sarah McLaney; Maternal grandmother Debra Stem; aunts and uncles Cindy Martin and Hope Greathouse (Carl), Glen Martin, Austin Nichols (Maliesa); cousins Ragan Greathouse, Carley Chambless (Jeremiah), Taylor Mace (Avery), Stephanie Boan (Will), Brianne Elliott (Christian) and many more extended family members and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The First Tee Program at Godwin Golf Course. All monies to be collected at Golden Acres Baptist Church and forwarded to the program.
