Master Chief (Ret) Gordon “Gene” Durrance, 84, of Pittsview, AL, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at the Bethany House in Auburn, AL.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. (EST) Monday, May 12, 2025 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Durrance was born June 5, 1940 in Columbus, GA, son of the late James H. Durrance and Minnie Russell Durrance. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and retired with over 31 years of service. Of all his hobbies, Mr. Durrance was most fond of music and collecting Indian artifacts. However, he also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and growing different plants and trees.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Jerald Duke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Myra Amerson Durrance; a daughter, Kelly Durrance Hanig; two sons, Gordon Russell Durrance and wife Pamela and Dennis Eugene Durrance and wife Mary Ellen; a sister, Lynn Dees and husband Robert; a brother, Phillip Durrance and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Corey Durrance, Dylan Durrance, Christopher Durrance, Tillman Singh-Durrance and Lyla Gray Amburgey (Jason); great-grandchildren, Rowen and Sora; as well as, extended family and friends.
