Robert Rhodes officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow in Oswichee Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 11:00 AM (EST) until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Blankenship was born February 02, 1941, in Lakeland, FL daughter of the late Mary Spivey. She was a cake decorator for Food Max. Ms. Matha was a natural at this and was actively sought after by others to create her beautiful cakes. She was an active member of Cottonton Baptist Church where she enjoyed fellowship and worship with family and friends. Ms. Matha was also an avid songwriter. She enjoyed singing and writing about her family and her faith. The song collection she has left for us may never be in the Billboard top 20, but to us they are priceless treasures.

We will remember her as a model of her Christian Faith to us and those she met. She was also a great example of what a Godly wife, mother and grandmother is to be. We will always miss her, but her story will be shared within our family for generations to come.

Mrs. Blankenship was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Spivey; two brothers, Daniel and Leon Holland; her first husband, Vonnell Blankenship; and three children, infant Joe Earl Blankenship, son Tim Blankenship and daughter, Sharon Blankenship.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Ray Blankenship, Ft. Mitchell, AL; daughter, Penny Blankenship Wood (Steve) and two sons, Steve Blankenship (Vicky) and Randy Blankenship (Dawn); three step children, Laura Sewell (Wesley), Keith Blankenship (Missy) and Ken Blankenship (Cindy); one sister, Mary Thompson; sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild with one on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A major victory in our lives was that she was a fourteen-year cancer survivor! In light of this great victory the family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
