Ms. Merium Hall Strickland

October 15, 1936 — July 13, 2022

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, The Lord called, and Ms. Merium Hall Strickland left from the love and care of her children and went into the arms of Jesus, hearing the words “Well done, thy Good and Faithful Servant.”

A celebration of her Home Going will be held at 12:00 Noon EST, on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, Alabama, with Rev. David Jones and Mark Childs officiating. The family will welcome friends and family one hour prior to service at the funeral home. A private mausoleum entombment will follow.

Ms. Strickland was born in Houston County, Alabama, the daughter of Herman E. Hall and Clara Meadows Hall. She graduated from Slocumb High School and later moved to Phenix City to begin a life with her late husband Tommy Howard Strickland. Together, they established Phenix Moving and Storage Company which they successfully operated for over 52 years. During this period, Ms. Merium was in-charge of the office and administration portion of the business as well as involved in all aspects of the business. She served as past president of Columbus-Phenix City Movers Association, which was a testament to her knowledge and professionalism in the moving and storage industry. At home, she enjoyed flowers, gardening and collecting/refinishing antiques. Above all this, her most beloved attribute was caring for other people. She was known to be a family for others in addition to providing a loving and nurturing home. There was nothing more important in Ms. Strickland’s life than serving the Lord. One of the places she achieved this was at Girard Baptist Church, which she was a member of until the church closed. She was often the person behind the scenes who could make things happen but never wanted any accolades for her work. In her final days, her final smile was given to her great granddaughter Annabelle Foote.

In addition to her husband, Ms. Strickland was preceded in death by her daughter Catherine Marie Sherman; sisters Faye Fondren and Martha Childs, and brother Billy Ray Hall.

Left to cherish Ms. Merium’s memory is a daughter Daphne Hughes and husband Glenn of Phenix City, AL; son Thomas “Tim” Strickland and wife Linda of Tampa, FL; sisters Jimmie Hall Sanders of Columbus, GA and Madine Gradic of Taylor, AL; grandchildren Ken Sanders (Stephanie), Heather Gecewich (Ben), Tracey Malone, Tommy K. Strickland (Ashley), Cindy Blount (Albert) and Claire Foote (Matthew); eleven great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to Lakewood Baptist Church’s food bank or The Columbus Hospice House.
