Monette Spence Strand

Monette Spence Strand, 87, of Phenix City, AL died at her home on Tuesday, November 02, 2021 with her family by her side.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 05, 2021 at 1:00 PM (EST) in Lakeview Memory Gardens with Mr. Kenneth Garner officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM (EST) on Thursday at the funeral home.
Ms. Strand was born January 17, 1934 in Geneva, AL daughter of the late Burly Spence and Mattie Bell McIntosh Spence. She had retired from Martin Army Hospital, Ft. Benning after several dedicated years of service. Ms. Strand loved her job and found great fulfillment in caring for patients. She was a member of United Baptist Church. Ms. Strand was a renowned cook who was well known for her candy making and cornbread dressing among other dishes. She was a caregiver by nature, who after retirement, she often cared for children and volunteered at Sherwood Elementary Kindergarten for many years. Many of the children she cared for became “family” to her. We will always remember the lesson she taught by example of putting others before self. She has left a legacy of love, trust and service that has impacted us and will continue to live on in future generations.
Ms. Strand was preceded in death by her triplets, Darell, Dwayne and Donna Strand and two sisters, Nell Snipes and Mary Boutwell and a brother, James “Brother” Spence.
Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Trainham (Larkin) and Cynthia Fuqua (Mike Forbes) all of Phenix City, AL; one son, Ronald W. “Willie” Strand II, Phenix City, AL; three grandchildren, Gabby Gallatin, Jessica Fuqua and Maddy Nicholson (Carsen); a great-grandchild on the way; several nieces, nephews and friends.
