MSG (Ret) Arley Doyle Spoonemore, 94, of Smiths Station, AL died peacefully at Piedmont Midtown, Columbus, GA on Thursday, February 1, 2024. 

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM (EST) in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Will Hawk officiating. Interment with U. S. Army honors will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.

MSG (Ret) Spoonemore was born August 23, 1929 in Sullivan, IN, son of the late James Arley Spoonemore and Ellen Ladson Spoonemore. He retired from the U. S. Army after more than twenty-six years of service to our country. During his service, he was in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and was the recipient of both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After his military career, he chose to enjoy life as a civilian and spend time with his family and friends. Mr. Spoonemore took up woodworking, making numerous beautiful pieces and repairing lots of damaged furniture. He also enjoyed fishing and playing with his grandchildren, something he never tired of doing. We will remember him as a man of integrity, a patriot, and a family man.  

Mr. Spoonemore was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ellen Spoonemore; three sisters, Hazel, Eloise, and Edith, one son, Gary Spoonemore, and a grandson, Arley Spoonemore.

 Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Shirley Wheeler Spoonemore, Smiths Station, AL; one son, Larry Spoonemore (Keka), Port Saint Joe, FL and one brother, Donald Spoonemore (Carolyn), Lafayette, IN; 5 grandchildren, Melissa Stapleman (Sam), Columbus, GA; Michael Spoonemore (Kayla) Columbus, GA; Shiloh Jones (Dean), Woodstock, GA; Tricia Landis, Crestview, FL, and Serenity Barber (Roger), Chatsworth, GA; 15 great-grandchildren, Tyler Wood (Maria), Brayden Wood, Davin Wood, Jaxon Wood, Cameron Wood, Jagger Wood, Ashlyn Spoonemore, Mia Spoonemore, Myla McKinnon, Hunter Kurmnow, Alexis Kurmnow, Kalysta Krumnow, Alyssa Spoonemore, Destiny Barber (Terry) and Tiffany Jones; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Carlie Wood, Isaac Barber, Oaklynn Caton and Thomas Caton; numerous nieces and nephews.
