Nita Ann Sowers, 91, of Smiths Station, AL died peacefully at her granddaughter’s home on Thursday, April 02, 2026.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Tuesday, April 07, 2026, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Lynn McManious officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.
Mrs. Sowers was born March 31, 1935, in Newton, IL daughter of the late Ed Foltz and Clarrissa McDaniel Foltz. She loved life to its fullest. Mrs. Nita was a member of the “Dinga ling Gang” where she played the keyboard and sang for many years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, something that she was proud to be part of. At one time she also sold AVON products.
We will remember her as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She always put family first ensuring that life was full of adventures.
Mrs. Sowers was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Clarrissa Foltz; husband of 48 years, Arthur Dale Sowers; and several siblings.
Survivors include her son, Arthur “Artie” Sowers (Kitty), Phenix City, AL; two sisters, Gale McCoy (Lloyd) and Karen Fields (Dr. Bob); one brother, Richard Foltz (Nancy); two granddaughters, Amber-Leigh Summerlin (Joe) and Alexis Andrus (Kyle); three great-grandchildren, Hailie Summerlin, Bentley Summerlin and Jackson Andrus; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
