Norma Jean Thornton Crews

Norma Jean Thornton Crews, 89, of Phenix City, AL died at her home on Monday, December 15, 2025.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Dewayne Dean officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.

Ms. Crews was born May 19, 1936, in Columbus, GA daughter of the late Roy Thornton and Ruby Woodall Thornton. She had retired from the Phenix City Fire Department as an administrative assistant after 20+ years of committed service. Ms. Crews loved to play games on her computer and watch the latest news. She was also a good storyteller, even if she told the same story more than once. Ms. Crews was a talker and never seemed to meet a stranger.

We will remember her as a lady who spoke her mind but stood firm in protecting and loving her family. Her family was her world, and we are better for this. Thank you for being there for us no matter what happened.

Ms. Crews was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruby Thornton, a daughter, Cathy Crews Sumner and a brother, Roy Madison Thornton.

Survivors include her two sons, Carey Crews, Jr. (Mareesa) and John Casey Crews (LeaAnn) all of Phenix City, AL; eight grandchildren, Stacey Sumner (Jeffery), Chelsey Crews (Ryan), Colby Crews, Lane Herring, Stormy Bosley (Timmy), Olivia Crews (Taylor), Britleigh Spurlock (Sellers) and Garrett Norris; several great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
